Quartz’s Best Companies for Remote Workers, now in its second year, is a global ranking to recognize employers who set the standard for distributed work. The list is determined based on employer and employee surveys conducted by the Best Companies Group. Additionally, our program consulting partner is Doist.

Organizations must have at least 25 full-time employees and at least 25 remote employees to participate. If an employer has more than 100 full-time employees, at least 25 percent of that workforce must work remotely for the company to be eligible.
“Telecommuting” for purposes of this program is defined as working away from a traditional office at least 75% of the time in a non-employer-owned and unequipped workplace.

Remote Work Policy
When you enter the program, Best Companies Group (BCG) will contact your company and organize a two-part survey (multiple languages will be available). In the first part, the employer fills out a questionnaire about its policies, practices, benefits and employee demographics. In the second part, BCG conducts online employee engagement and satisfaction surveys across categories defined by Quartz to gather detailed information about each participating firm.
Employees complete a survey of in-depth statements using a 5-point scale ranging from Strongly Agree to Strongly Disagree. The survey also included several demographic and open-ended questions. Temporary or seasonal employees, per diem, independent contractors (1099), interns, and consultants are not counted as full-time or part-time permanent employees and are not included in the survey process.
A panel of top companies analyzes the data and determines the rankings published in Quartz at Work, Quartz’s publication about the modern workplace.
Best Companies Group is an independent research firm specializing in identifying and identifying great places to work. It runs programs worldwide, including in the US, Canada and the UK.

Participation in the online survey is free. All participating companies can then purchase their BCG Insights Report Package, which includes responses from firm employees as well as national employee and employer benchmarks.
Through a survey and research process, Best Companies Group (BCG) collects, analyzes and evaluates company data and other sensitive information. BCG is committed to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding participation and information collected.
BCG only uses employee email addresses to send invitations to the Employee Engagement and Satisfaction Survey. BCG will not trade or sell email addresses to any third party for any reason. Once the survey process is complete, the submitted email addresses will be deleted.
Individual or company-related information and data collected through the employee engagement and satisfaction survey will not be disclosed to any third party for any reason without written permission from the participating company. Data collected from the entire group through the employee survey process is used in group benchmarking reports and for trending.

For the purpose of publishing “Best of” lists and special sections, BCG will provide employer information to an authorized media partner to assist in the development of a special publication, website and/or recognition event. The information released will be limited to information collected by the Employer’s questionnaire. Information about a company’s participation in the current or previous years is not published unless the company has made the list and the difference is not made public.
