How To Set Up Gift Cards For My Business – I’m a big fan of giving gift cards for birthdays, Christmas, graduations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and other occasions like teacher appreciation at my kids’ schools. If you want to make gift card giving more personal, here are some gift card presentation ideas for you!

2. Giving gift cards reduces waste. Your friends and family will no longer have unused gifts around their house.

3. If your recipient is saving for something, giving them a gift card can help them save for something important.

How To Activate Visa And Mastercard Gift Cards

Teens and Young Adults – When kids reach a certain age, they want to pick out something for themselves or have money for restaurants so they can hang out with friends.

Teachers – I am a HUGE proponent of giving gift cards to teachers. (If possible, try to find your child’s teacher’s favorite restaurant.)  Gift cards are the best gift for a teacher!

Older Adults – If your grandparents have a favorite hotel, restaurant, or performance venue, consider getting them a gift card to one of these places, or even an Amazon gift card.

Any other family member who is hard to buy for. Don’t think of it as giving boring gift cards, think of it as something they’ll actually use.

New Parents – Parents are more aware of what size their toddlers are wearing and can use gift cards to purchase essential items such as diapers or toys.

1. Mason Jar. Place your gift card in a mason jar with your favorite candy, confetti and a little ribbon.

2. Create a “secret” for gifting with a restaurant gift card. Last year I gave my niece a Starbucks gift card for Christmas. Here is a free printable Starbucks secret menu that I made for her.

4. Place the gift card inside the balloon – blow up the balloon so that the gift card is inside. Have the recipient pop the balloon to receive the card. You can also make a balloon bouquet.

I don’t tend to keep a lot of craft supplies on hand, so when I saw this month’s destocking challenge, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. I finally realized that since so many of my Christmas gifts were cash and gift cards this year, I needed to come up with some fun papercraft/creative ways to give them.

I still want my nieces to have something to open, so I pulled out my papers and stamps and made cute little money/gift card holders. They were much easier to make than I thought.

The first thing I worked on was holding some oversized Nintendo gift cards. I made a standard size card and turned the card front into one corner. I then used my double sided tape to pull 1/2 way up the bottom creating a cute little pocket. Finally, I added some cute embellishments and ribbons.

Most of the tweens and tweens on my list just wanted cash this year, and while I miss buying them, I had fun making money (ignore the $50 bill in these photos, though; that’s all I had on hand). I ordered some envelopes from Amazon that are 3 1/2 and 6 1/2, so I knew I wanted to keep my cards shorter than that.

I finally settled on 8 1/4 x 6 7/16 by cutting the paper. Then I would estimate 3″ and 6″ on the long side of the card as follows:

I used my hex die to make a notch and then cut off one side with a paper cutter (on some)

Now, since my envelopes were shorter than the length of the bill, I had to make a small fold in the money to make it fit. If anyone knows how to find/buy regular money card envelopes, I’d love to know!

My last three cards were made using a similar process to the one above. I cut the cards 7 1/2 by 6 7/16 and scored 2 1/4 and 5 1/4 on the long side. Anyway:

When I folded them they overlapped so I embellished the front and the inside flap that holds the money in place and made a little strip to go around and hold them in place.

The strip measures 1 1/2 x 6 1/2 with dots 2 and 5 1/4 on the 6 1/2 side. I decorated the band and then slipped it on.

I just love how they turned out and I already had all the supplies on hand except for the envelopes and extra double sided tape.

Happy April Fool’s Day to you! It’s the first Monday of the month and time for major shopping with Tanya. I was doing so well with my Amazon purchases until the end of the month when we decided to host an Easter dinner at our house and I felt like I needed so much that I didn’t have any Easter decorations. I bought a few new sweaters for this “in-between” season and I really love this cable knit sweater so much that I can do anything to keep myself from buying another one! I love the gray one too…but I find myself wishing I had bought it in a different color since it doesn’t have a very “springy” feel to it. Evan needed new hiking boots and we really wanted something waterproof this year, but our local shoe stores didn’t have anything that worked, so we turned to Amazon and he found a pair that he really likes. I’ve been working on a lot of scrapbook pages and needed to buy more of these glue refills and Cricut cuts

Last spring, when Alec started his college planning, I was quite surprised that he only wanted to visit two out-of-state colleges (he visited a few in-state colleges with his high school culinary class). In the end, he decided to apply to only two of the colleges he visited—Johnson and Wales University (JWU) and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Both are the #1 and #2 culinary and baking/pastry schools in the US. Funnily enough, one of his two high school cooking teachers attended one of those schools! A photo of the harbor campus from last spring at JWU A photo of the future wildcat also from last spring Visiting the CIA in the summer We were lucky that both schools could easily be visited in one day and we had a great time touring both. Alec sure asked lots and lots of questions. The two schools were so comparable to each other that we had quite a few pros and cons. He LOVED the CIA campus and that it was on the river and quite rustic and quiet…but

I decided to document last Friday for today’s Friday Favorites post. I hardly document a day in the life anymore, now that my boys are grown and mostly on their own. But I knew we had a pretty full day and thought it might be fun. These are some of my favorite posts to read and I think I did a pretty great job remembering to document and take photos throughout the day! At 5:00 I wake up and allow myself to blog, read e-mails, etc. until 5:30. At 5:30 I get up, get dressed for the gym, put away the laundry from the night before, make the bed. 5:45 go downstairs to make lunch for Alec (1/2 way though he came to the balcony to say he wasn’t going to school because he wasn’t feeling well – he’s 18 and is allowed to make his own calls). I decided to make a salad, a chicken salad, hard boil some eggs and cut up all the fruit since we had just gone grocery shopping last night after dinner and there was nothing.
