How To Make Your Own Baseball Tee – I’m looking to create some outdoor activities using pool floats. Pool noodles are easy to use and store when you’re not playing with them. I knew working with them would be great. How to do a putt is the first of three outdoor ideas using swimming noodles that I’ll share with you.
This activity is so easy to put together. There are only a few difficult parts. After I share how we solved them, maybe they won’t be a problem for you anymore.
How To Make Your Own Baseball Tee
The most important thing when you make a batting tee is that it has to be the right height for your child. I read in an article that it was suggested that it should be high enough to fit your child’s waist. After holding the float up for JDaniel to find the right height, I used a bread knife to cut it to the right size.

It should be perfect, but it’s a bit high. Why? We placed the pool noodle on top of a stake from a neighbor’s croquet set. It’s really difficult to slide the float down. (When we take this out again, I’ll use a narrow dowel.) We all tried to push and pull the noodles down as far as we could. There should still be about 4 to 5 inches of the stack protruding from the end of the part of the stake that will go into the ground. That made the noodles sit a little higher than we needed.
To make the tee a little lower, we dug a really deep hole in our backyard. (We could cut it down, but later I want to try this activity with a peg.) Once we got to the right place, we drove the peg deep into the ground. (In fact, placing it deep in the ground made the tee shot really stable!)
Pool noodles are really flexible when hit with a stick. That really worked when JDaniel and the boys next to him hit the ball off the tee. They all tried to hit it as hard and far as possible.
The end of the noodle was cut slightly jagged. That went well too. The ball can rest on the tee and not slide due to its rough texture. It’s not super pretty but it really works for us.

As I mentioned, I will share two other outdoor activities with pool noodles. In the meantime, you might want to check out some of the great pool noodle activities others have created.
If you try any of these activities, please leave a comment below letting me know how it went or share your anteater pictures on my Facebook page.
Welcome! My name is Deirdre and I am JDaniel4’s mother. After teaching in Virginia for 20 years, I was a stay-at-home mom who learned and grew alongside my 4th son, JDaniel, for 5 years. I recently returned to teaching at a local school in South Carolina. As an avid softball player myself and now an assistant coach, I am constantly looking for skills and drills to improve both my team and my own performance in the game. When it comes down to it, fielding is certainly a major aspect of the game, but you can’t win the game without hitting and getting on base. Since my team is having a hard time hitting certain pitches this year, I wanted to create a softball tee that we could use at practice without having to spend a ton of tournament money .
For this project, I went to Menards to get all the materials I needed. The Menards I go to (on Route 84 and Highway 2 in Lincoln, NE) has all the necessary parts in the Plumbing and PVC Pipe section. I assume most stores will be set up the same way and that’s where you’ll find most of these materials! The only parts I didn’t find in this area of the store were Wood Screws, found in the Nails and Screws Department, and Furniture Leg Heads, as this item is located in the Household Department right next to them. next to the Nails and Screws Unit. The Paint Room and Spray Paint Room are located within the Paint Room. The staff there were very helpful in directing me to the right location and finding the right size parts I needed to complete the softball jersey. So if you get stuck, just ask! In total I spent about $29 compared to going to Scheel’s and buying a $99 SKLZ weighted pro t-shirt.

· 1 Drain Hose, also known as Sink Faucet at Menards, 7/8” ID x 1 ¼” OD 2’ long – $3.89
· Plywood (I went to the scrap section and found some pieces that worked well, you can buy larger pieces and cut them out like I did) about 11” x 11” (I used length of a piece of paper to measure) – $2.89
· 1 PVC Fitting, you will want to look for Schedule 40 1 ¼” Male Thread Adapter – $5.45
· 1 PVC Pipe, again look for Table 40, 1 ¼” diameter (This has the only option of being 4′ long so you will need to cut it down, mine was cut down to 2′) – $ 3.99

· 1 pack of 1 ½” Shepherd Rubber Furniture Leg Tips (They come in a pack of 4, I found that they are not available at Menards and are available as 1 1/8” replacements, causing only minor adjustments to tee) – 2.59 USD
· Saw (I have a table saw that I can use otherwise a hand saw would work just as well)
· Screwdriver or electric drill (I used an electric drill since I was using thick wood but either type will work)
Take your plywood and measure it to your liking, I made a rough estimate of what the house slab would look like and cut the wood to 11” x 11”. If you don’t have a tape measure nearby, you can use a piece of paper to measure using the length of the paper as 11”, which is what I did.

On the plywood center is a galvanized iron floor flange. Once you have centered the floor flange, you will need to grab your screwdriver or electric drill and 4 wood screws. There will be 4 circular cuts in the floor flange, this will be where you will install the screws to hold the flange in place. (Make sure the screws are not too narrow, this will cause the flange to move out of position, the screw head should be larger than the opening of the circular cutouts. Also make sure the screws will not penetrate bottom of the wood, this can cause injury when lifting the tee and can also cause it to become unbalanced.) Carefully screw or drill the screws into place. Once you have screwed the floor flange into place, try to move it around, if it doesn’t budge you can continue to step 3, if it does move you will want to tighten the screws more or Try a screw with a larger head.
Next, you will need to Install threaded PVC pipe to the Schedule 40 male threaded adapter. The galvanized iron floor flange will be threaded on the inside of the large center opening. You will need to take the threaded side of the PVC Fitting and screw it to the Galvanized Iron Floor Flange. You will want to tighten the PVC Pipe as tight as possible.
On my tee, the PVC Connector doesn’t go all the way down, as long as you let the Connector touch the top of the plywood it’s okay!
Be very careful and safe with this step. I also recommend having someone else do this step! For this step, you will need a table or hand saw. I recommend using safety glasses and gloves for this step. Take your PVC pipe and measure it to be about 2′ long. Again, I didn’t have a tape measure handy so I used paper to measure, I took the length of 2 segments and used the width of my middle and index finger to estimate about 2′. Mark where you will cut the piece. (I got extra help with this because my friend owns the table saw and I felt more comfortable when she showed me and helped me operate the machine because she had all the safety equipment. (perfectly appropriate.) If you are doing this step alone you will want a clamp to hold the PVC pipe
